In a talk by N. Eldon Tanner called Success Is Gauged by Self-Mastery, he talked about self-discipline, self-control and self-mastery. Da Vinci once said, “You will never have a greater or lesser dominion than that over yourself.” He continues with “the height of a man’s success is gauged by his self-mastery; the depth of his failure by his self-abandonment. Plato also had wisdom in saying: “The first and best victory is to conquer self; to be conquered by self is, of all things, the most shameful and vile.” How powerful is that in that you can conquer yourself or yourself will conquer you? It can only be one way or the other. I prefer conquer yourself. Self-control is what most people are lacking.
The Entrepreneur and the Family was another great talk by Steve Blank, Stanford Engineering. Steve talked about Balance in life. Balance of family life, a startup company, you need to make sure and even schedule time with your family. He understood that we cannot let our families suffer of no time given to them.
Wences Casares gave a talk called Three Lessons About What It Means to Be an Entrepreneur and he said, “being called a serial entrepreneur is not a good thing, and he will change that image.” We do not need to work.
Jan Newman gave a talked titled, “Loyalty to God and Family.” This was a great talk in regards in knowing that we have to be loyal to Lord, Spouse, and Family. Don’t ever be so busy that you think you need to turn down a calling in the church. For you will at some time in the future need the Lord.
